New Jersey native Nicole Atkins is one of several musicians set to appear on this Sunday’s first season finale of the Showtime drama Roadies. In a previously shared promo for the episode, Atkins can be seen singing part of the song “A Little Crazy” with electric guitar accompaniment provided by Scott Metzger. A complete recording of the single has been shared via American Songwriter.

Atkins wrote “A Little Crazy” with veteran singer-songwriter Chris Isaak. It took the pair just a single day to compose the song for the program. “The idea was to channel Roy Orbison,” Atkins told American Songwriter, “and that desperate feeling you have when bad love becomes obsession.”

She also described the process of being included in the season finale, explaining:

A couple years ago Cameron Crowe asked me to audition for a role on the show which I did via Skype while on tour. I didn’t get the part, but he said that he was gonna figure out some way I could be on the show. The show began airing and I never got a call so I figured it wasn’t gonna happen. But a couple months ago I played a show in Atlanta and when i was leaving I saw a Roadies poster on the wall and tweeted Cameron, saying, “Your show is sponsoring mine tonight.” He immediately wrote back and asked if I could be in L.A. the next week to perform on the finale episode. A week later, my guitarist friend Scott Metzger and I flew to LA. I had the flu and no voice, but when it came time to shoot, the energy on set was so incredible my voice came back! It was one of the most surreal and fun experiences of my life. We shot the final scene of the whole season and Cameron said, “It’s as if this whole experience has been leading up to this final moment with you.”

Atkins is currently in Austin working on her new album that will include a new recording of “A Little Crazy.” Tune in to Showtime on Sunday, August 28 at 10 p.m. ET/PT to watch the finale featuring My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James, Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder, veteran musicians Robyn Hitchcock and Jackson Browne as well as Gary Clark Jr. and Lucius members Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig.
