Watch Nicki Minaj Welcome Hero Cyndi Lauper For Surprise Duet In Brooklyn

Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday 2 World Tour rolled into Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on Wednesday. The rapper welcomed hero and New York native native Cyndi Lauper toward the end of the concert.

Nicki Minaj is touring around her 2023 album, Pink Friday 2. The track “Pink Friday Girls” samples one of Cyndi Lauper-popularized 1983 anthem, “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.”

As Stereogum pointed out, Minaj covered “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” with Katy Perry in 2010 for a VH1 Divas Salute The Troops TV Special. Nicki has also said that Lauper was a fashion inspiration as well as musical hero. In 2013, Lauper said on Sway In The Morning that she was a fan of Nicki as well.

Additionally, Minaj noted that her sample of “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” was the first sanctioned by Lauper.
