During the summer of 1991 Phish embarked on their first and only tour with a horn section. The band was accompanied by the “Giant Country Horns” consisting of Dave “The Truth” Grippo, Russell Remington and Carl “Geerz” Gerhard. Video from the horns tour is rare, so we’re excited to see footage of the “Mike’s Song” > “I Am Hydrogen” > “Weekapaug Groove” segment from July 18, 1991 in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire has surfaced.

The “Mike’s Groove” sequence seen below ended Phish’s first set at the Hampton Casino Ballroom on July 18, 1991. Grippo shines in “Mike’s Song” as he takes a ferocious sax solo while Geerz and Remington jump up and down on trampolines along with Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio and bassist Mike Gordon. We then get to see Anastasio and Gordon do the long lost “I Am Hydrogen” dance during the instrumental that connects “Mike’s Song” and “Weekapaug Groove.” The horns stand down for most of “Weekapaug” as Trey unleashes a furious guitar solo. Watch the whole 15-minute segment shared by Cleantones and synced with audio taped by John Redmond:

Cleantones also shared this longer clip from the show which also features “Chalk Dust Torture,” “Guelah Papyrus” and “Suzy Greenberg” in addition to the “Mike’s Groove”:
