The Neville Brothers‘ debut on long-running live music television program Austin City Limits in 1979 included a cover of Jimmy Cliff’s “Sitting Limbo.” Video of the performance of “Sitting In Limbo” has been shared on Austin City Limits‘ YouTube channel in honor of Art “Poppa Funk” Neville, who died on Monday at age 81.
Art Neville handled lead vocals and played electric piano on the song Jimmy Cliff released on his 1971 album, Another Cycle. The Neville Brothers also featured Art’s siblings Charles, Cyril and Aaron. The Neville Brothers went on to appear on Season 11 (1986) and Season 20 (1995) of Austin City Limits in addition to their 1979 performance that aired as part of Season 4. In 2017, the Neville Brothers were inducted into the ACL Hall Of Fame.
