Neil Young unveiled “Shut It Down 2020,” a new take on “Shut It Down” from Colorado, the 2019 Neil Young & Crazy Horse album. Young and his wife, Daryl Hannah made a video for “Shut It Down 2020” which can be viewed below.
Last spring, Young assembled the current lineup of Crazy Horse — bassist Billy Talbot, drummer Ralph Molina and guitarist Nils Lofgren — in Telluride to record what turned out to be Colorado, the first Crazy Horse album since Psychedelic Pill in 2012. Neil decided to revise “Shut It Down” after the current pandemic led fans to reach out via Neil Young Archives to note the special meaning the song has taken on.

Here is a message from Neil:
These are uncertain times. I wish you all the best as you care for our sick, the young and old who we love so much.
Sending the best wishes to all the health care and government workers all over the world, to all the scientists who will learn and share with us the best ways to ensure survival in our world challenged. Let’s all work together and stay positive that we will find a way. With love to all, in all walks of life, all political persuasions, all colors. We will succeed working together for the good of our world as we are here together, hanging in the balance of nature.

Neil Young has removed the paywall from NeilYoungArchives.com and will soon announce new Fireside Sessions livestreams. “Because we are all at home and not venturing out,” Young added, “We will try to do a stream from my fireplace with my lovely wife filming. It will be a down-home production, a few songs, a little time together. Peace & love.”
