Neil Young Debuts ‘Through My Sails’ As Part Of ‘Fireside Sessions IV’ Video
Neil Young unveiled the fourth installment of his Fireside Sessions video series via his Neil Young Archives website. Filmed by his wife Daryl Hannah at the pair’s home in The Rockies, the 37-minute clip included Neil’s first public performance of “Through My Sails.”
Young went outdoors to record the take on “One Of These Days” that starts the video. He then heads inside for solo acoustic versions of “Good To See You,” “Through My Sails” and “Daddy Went Walkin’.” The former hadn’t been played since Halloween 1999 as per Sugar Mountain, a fan site which also notes “Through My Sails” was a debut and “Daddy Went Walkin'” had been shelved since October 25, 2009. Neil Young originally released a studio version of “Through My Sails” on his 1975 album with Crazy Horse, Zuma.
Neil moved over to piano and accompanied himself on harmonica for the classic staple “After The Gold Rush.” A “commercial” for water that was included in previous Fireside Sessions videos appeared next before Young performed “Mother Earth (Natural Anthem).” It was then back outside for the 74-year-old musician who played a solo acoustic “Distant Camera.” The set and video ended with Young back inside on piano for “Are You Ready For The Country?” as footage of Neil playing outside with his dogs aired.
