Legendary performer Neil Young concluded a six-show solo run at Northrup Auditorium in Minneapolis last night. Thursday’s performance included four tunes Young hadn’t played earlier in the run, including a bust out and a debut.
Neil opened with the first “Cowgirl In The Sand” since the first show of the run. The same is true of “Don’t Be Denied,” the second song of the night. Young then went with 12-string for tour staple “Thrasher” and strapped on his acoustic for the recently revived “Long May You Run,” “Dreamin’ Man” and “War Of Man.” The iconic musician last played “Dreamin’ Man” off Harvest Moon way back on May 29, 1999. Next, Neil picked up his banjo for his ode to his old dog, “Old King” and headed to piano for “Green Is Blue” and “Flying On The Ground Is Wrong.” The former was debuted at the first show of the run and was played each night since, while the latter was a tour debut.

After “Mansion On The Hill,” Young brought out the 12-string once again for rarities “Pocahontas” and “Running Dry (Requiem For The Rockets),” a song Neil debuted live on Tuesday night 50 years after he recorded it for 1969’s Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere. The evening’s lone debut came next, a tune tentatively titled “Truth Kills.” Neil then headed back to the piano for “Journey Through The Past” ahead of his return to acoustic guitar for “Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere.” The final surprise of the evening was “Alabama,” which was last played at the Desert Trip festival in 2016 and had never been performed at a solo show.
“Ohio” was the lone tune of the night in which Young went electric and was followed by a run of “Cortez The Killer,” “Out On The Weekend” and “Heart Of Gold” to end the set. As usual, Neil concluded the night with a “Tumbleweed” encore. It’s now off to Winnipeg for Young, who teams with Crazy Horse for a pair of shows on Sunday and Monday nights.
