Neil Young & Crazy Horse Share ‘Heading West’ Single
Stream the second single from the band's forthcoming 'Barn' album.
Neil Young & Crazy Horse‘s new “Heading West” single was written by Neil Young about trips he made with his mother as a youth. The song appears on Barn, an album from the legendary band due out through Reprise Records on December 10.
Young recorded the 10-track LP with Crazy Horse drummer Ralph Molina, guitarist Nils Lofgren and bassist Billy Talbot in the Colorado mountains. The sessions were held in an exact replica of an 1850s barn constructed at the same location as the original it was based on.
Neil and his “Volume Dealer” partner Niko Bolas produced the follow-up to 2019’s Colorado. “What a great ride with the Horse on this one! Larry Cragg had my guitar sounding so alive,” Young wrote on Neil Young Archives about “Heading West” in reference to his guitar tech.
“My mom and I travelled across the country together, heading west. She was on her way back to home to start over,” Young added. “I was on my way with her. Here’s a song about me and my mom and those ‘growing up’ times.”
