Today, CBS This Morning aired a feature on Aaron Dessner and Bryce Dessner of The National who curated the 59-track Day Of The Dead Grateful Dead tribute box set. Released to benefit the Red Hot Organization, the compilation features a wide range of musicians from a variety of genres, including Dead guitarist Bob Weir who appears on a pair of live tracks.
One of those live tracks on Day Of The Dead is “Peggy-O,” a song frequently covered by the Grateful Dead and played by The National with Weir in April 2014. The National performed the song again as part of the program’s Saturday Sessions series. A song played live just three times by the Dead, one of several songs Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy recorded for or Day Of The Dead was “If I Had The World To Give” and he also performed the Shakedown Street track for CBS as well.
