Yesterday, My Morning Jacket announced the upcoming release of The Waterfall II, a studio album featuring songs they recorded during the same sessions that yielded The Waterfall in 2015. With The Waterfall II set to premiere via a listening party on Thursday and out digitally on Friday, here’s a look at live versions of two songs from the LP Jacket has played live.

“Magic Bullet” is the sixth track on The Waterfall II. The band previously released the song as a single in 2016. My Morning Jacket debuted “Magic Bullet” live on New Year’s Eve 2017 at the 1st Bank Center in Broomfield, Colorado. Another play came at their One Big Holiday destination event in 2018 after a complete performance of The Waterfall and the band’s two other most recent LPs. Then, MMJ performed “Magic Bullet” during the second night of their run at Red Rocks last summer.

Watch video shot by Pat Myers of My Morning Jacket’s December 31, 2017 show queued up to the start of the first-ever “Magic Bullet”:

“Welcome Home,” the penultimate The Waterfall II track, has a history that pre-dates the sessions at Stinson Beach’s Panoramic House that yielded the Waterfall LPs. My Morning Jacket first performed the song to open their Newport Folk Festival set in 2012. The Louisville rockers played “Welcome Home” later that year at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York on December 27. It would be nearly a year before the next one at Neil Young’s Bridge School Benefit on October 27, 2013. “Welcome Home” then disappeared from MMJ setlists after a play at the inaugural One Big Holiday in 2014.
