See Mt. Joy’s Perform Groovy Phish ‘Wolfman’s Brother’ Cover In Atlanta
Watch the quintet’s take on the Phish classic from a show at The Roxy on Tuesday.
Mt. Joy recently added a cover of the Phish classic “Wolfman’s Brother” to their repertoire. The Philadelphia-birthed band currently based in Los Angeles debuted the take at the Philly Music Fest earlier this month with a second rendition coming in Atlanta on Tuesday as per Setlist.FM.
Phish initially released the song credited to all four band members as well as lyricist Tom Marshall on their 1994 studio album Hoist. The band premiered “Wolfman’s Brother” live on April 4, 1994 at The Flynn Theatre in Burlington, Vermont backed by the Giant Country Horns. Phish’s hometown show launched their massive 1994 Spring Tour and also incorporated debuts of Hoist cuts “Scent Of A Mule,” “Down With Disease,” “If I Could” and “Julius” as well as a Jon Fishman-sung take on “I Wan’na Be Like You” from the Jungle Book soundtrack.
Mt. Joy — guitarists Matt Quinn and Sam Cooper, bassist Michael Byrnes, keyboardist Jackie Miclau and drummer Sotiris Eliopoulos — honored their Philadelphia roots by headlining this year’s Philly Music Fest. The multi-venue, six-night celebration of the Philadelphia music scene saw Mt. Joy perform at Ardmore Music Hall on October 11.
The group touring in support of their 2022 album, Orange Blood, worked the LP’s “Ruins” into “Wolfman’s Brother” at Ardmore Music Hall according to Setlist.FM and repeated the feat earlier this week at The Roxy in Atlanta.
Fan-shot video footage of Mt. Joy’s “Wolfman’s Brother” cover in Atlanta has emerged. Quinn handles lead vocals and strums acoustic guitar as Sam Cooper shreds on electric guitar. The quintet are no strangers to songs from the jam scene with Grateful Dead gem “Fire On The Mountain” often played live by Mt. Joy.
