The mother-and-son team of Ms. Lauryn Hill and YG Marley served as the musical guests on Tuesday’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Hill and Marley delivered a medley of “Ex-Factor,” “Survival” and “Praise Jah In The Moonlight” to cap an installment celebrating Fallon’s 10th anniversary as host of the legendary late-night program.

“Can you wake it back? We’re going to take it back,” Hill declared in advance of starting the medley with “Ex-Factor.” The song is featured on her iconic 1998 LP, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. YG Marley, Hill’s son with Rohan Marley, then emerged for the rest of the medley.

YG led the way on “Survival,” a song that shares its name with and was inspired by his grandfather Bob Marley‘s 1979 album. Marley released “Survival” earlier this week. Ms. Lauryn Hill wrapped over the reggae-tinged track she helped write.

Ms. Lauryn Hill and YG Marley concluded the eight-minute medley by uniting on the latter’s 2023 single, “Praise Jah In The Moonlight.” YG co-wrote the song with his mother and “Praise Jah In The Moonlight” incorporates samples of Bob Marley’s “Crisis.” In February, the song became the first to enter the Billboard Hot 100 chart in seven years.
