Mountain Jam 2016 Day One :: 6.2.16 :: Hunter Mountain :: Hunter, NY

The 12th annual Mountain Jam festival held at Hunter Mountain in Hunter, New York got underway Thursday with a day filled with collaborations and tributes. Frontman for perennial co-headliners Gov’t Mule, guitarist Warren Haynes was his usual busy self, sitting-in with a number of acts before his band takes the stage for the first time later today. Haynes joined pop rock outfit Train during the band’s special tribute to Led Zeppelin in which they played the group’s iconic ‘Led Zeppelin II’ LP in its entirety.

Warren also emerged during Marco Benevento’s tribute to David Bowie with Superhuman Happiness and Mikaela Davis which included a take on “Rebel Rebel.” Haynes was also brought out to help Umphrey’s McGee on their original “Higgins,” and a few songs later Benevento joined UM between his two sets during their cover of Pink Floyd’s “Breathe.” Thursday’s opening day action also saw performances by Donna The Buffalo, Jane Lee Hooker, Wild Adriatic and Cabinet. The music at Mountain Jam continues today with Tourpedo offering a pay-as-you-like webcast of many of the sets.
