The 12th annual Mountain Jam got underway yesterday with an appearance by Umphrey’s McGee. The two set performance featured a pair of guests as they welcomed Warren Haynes and Marco Benevento to sit-in during the first set.

UM kicked off the opening half of their show with “Similar Skin” which was followed by “Rocker Part 2” and “Attachments.” Sticking with more recently debuted originals, Umphrey’s offered “Little Gift” before transitioning into “Higgins” which featured the emergence of Haynes on guitar. The Gov’t Mule frontman exited the stage as UM fired up “The Linear.” After segueing into “Booth Love” the band then welcomed Benevento – who was between David Bowie tribute sets on the Valley stage – to join Joel Cummins on keyboards for a take on Pink Floyd’s “Breathe.” Marco left UM to close out the first set with “Mulche’s Odyssey.”

It was just Umphrey’s McGee for the duration of the second half, which opened with longtime favorite “40’s Theme.” A well explored “The Triple Wide” > “Educated Guess” and the set closing mash-up rarity “Frankie Zombie” helped highlight the set two. Guitarist Brendan Bayliss led the group through “Hajimemashite” to start the encore and ending of the “Bridgeless” started earlier in the second set wrapped up UM’s night at Mountain Jam.
