Rising Birmingham, Alabama-based bluegrass quartet Mountain Grass Unit released a new single, “Hey Mama.” The track is set to land on the group’s upcoming EP Runnin’ From Trouble, due out on September 20.
Mountain Grass Unit — bassist Sam Wilson, mandolinist Drury Anderson, fiddler Josiah Nelson and guitarist Luke Black — captured Runnin’ From Trouble‘s five tracks at Old Crow Medicine Show’s Hartland Studio in Nashville. OCMS’s Mike Harris produced MGU’s new record with Old Crow’s Morgan Jahnig handling mixing.

MGU’s new single, “Hey Mama,” encapsulates the themes explored on Runnin’ From Trouble, as three of the band’s members approach college graduation.
“’Hey Mama’ is a tune written around the ideas of leaving one chapter in life in exchange for another,” mandolinist Drury Anderson stated. “The band recorded this one with the intention of displaying a more ‘live’ sound that you might hear at an MGU show. We are super excited to release this one and hope that our listeners enjoy!”

The band will also appear at Billy Strings Renewal Festival in Colorado. Additionally, MGU has a support slot for Leftover Salmon and a hometown holiday show on the horizon.
