My Morning Jacket To Reissue ‘It Still Moves’ & Working On New Album

Louisville rockers My Morning Jacket have announced they will reissue their 2003 breakthrough album It Still Moves complete with bonus tracks via ATO on May 27. Frontman Jim James spoke with the New York Times about the reissue and also shares other news about his new solo album and the status of MMJ’s new album.

The new version of It Still Moves will include 13 previously unreleased b-sides and demos with Jim James’ ten original demos part of the release. James teamed with longtime friend Kevin Ratterman to revisit and retweak the old material. As per a press release, “this new version still has that shimmering grandeur that lent it such a singular identity, but there is an increased strength and clarity to it now.” Jim James said, “Everybody can relate to something they’ve done in their life where you didn’t know it at the time, but you were rushed through finishing it.” It Still Moves is available for pre-order via the band’s online store.

Jim James told the New York Times a new solo album will “most likely [arrive] in the fall” confirming what he told our Andrew Bruss in a JamBase interview. As for My Morning Jacket’s follow-up to 2015’s The Waterfall? “Another Jacket record is in progress. I’ve just recently rediscovered this desire for scorching rock ’n’ roll, and that’s hopefully what we’ll get around to,” James said though the Times reveals the new MMJ album “probably won’t see release this year.”

My Morning Jacket has a handful of gigs scheduled this year, while the band minus James will accompany Ray LaMontagne on an extensive tour.
