Guitarist Carl Broemel of My Morning Jacket will soon release a new solo album. Broemel’s new solo album 4th Of July is due August 19 via Carl’s newly formed label Stocks In Asia alongside Thirty Tigers. Today Carl has shared the LP’s first single, “Sleepy Lagoon.”
Carl Broemel collaborated with My Morning Jacket bandmates Bo Koster and Tom Blankenship on 4th Of July with both appearing on the LP and Koster co-writing a few tracks. Guest appearances also include Neko Case, Laura Veirs, Russ Pollard, Shelly Colvin, Richard Medek and Jordan Caress. The guitarist put together the album in Nashville between MMJ studio sessions and tour cycles. “This album is just me trying to compete with my own abilities — it was a challenge to do it on my own,” Broemel said in a statement.
Broemel will keep busy this summer as a member of Ray LaMontagne’s band, but a full solo tour is coming soon. For now, Carl has announced a handful of solo shows. Listen to “Sleepy Lagoon” which premiered via Pitchfork:
