The Monterey International Pop Festival – Celebrates 50 Years three-day music fest will be held on June 16 – 18, exactly 50 years to the day of the legendary 1967 festival, and it will take place at the Monterey County Fairgrounds, the same site of the original landmark event. Organizers of the event recently announced a series of tributes to artists who performed at the original Monterey International Pop Festival.

A handful of 2017 acts will draw inspiration from their 1967 counterparts during their own sets by including a cover song that is of particular significance to them. So far seven tributes have been announced with more to come. Jack Johnson will honor Steve Miller Band, Leon Bridges will honor Otis Redding, The Head & The Heart will honor The Mamas & The Papas, Gary Clark Jr. will honor Jimi Hendrix, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats will honor Big Brother & The Holding Company and Nicki Bluhm & The Dirty Dozen Brass Band will honor Jefferson Airplane.

The lineup for Monterey International Pop Festival – Celebrates 50 Years also features three artists who played the original event. As previously announced, Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh will team with The Terrapin Family Band, Booker T. Jones will lead Booker T.’s Stax Revue and Eric Burdon will front Eric Burdon & The Animals.

Tickets are on sale now via the festival’s website.
