moe. Welcomes Many Guests At moe.down 16

After a nearly a three year absence, last weekend moe. relaunched moe.down in Turin, New York. The veteran jam rockers welcomed many of the fellow musicians performing at moe.down 16 during their several appearances at Snow Ridge Ski Resort.

All told, Al Schnier, Chuck Garvey, Rob Derhak, Vinnie Amico and Jim Laughlin came together for seven moe. sets over the three-day event. Each day saw two complete moe. sets, as well as a special afternoon performance held on Saturday.

Friday’s moe. performance began with a first set featuring the band joined by longtime collaborator Kirk Juhas on keyboards for “Blue Jeans Pizza” and “The Chain,” the latter of which was a debut Fleetwood Mac cover that also featured moe.down 16 performers Ryan Montbleau and Hayley Jane. Friday’s second set kicked off with members of Kung Fu – guitarist Tim Palmieri, keyboardist Beau Sasser and saxophonist Robert Somerville – onstage for a cover of Frank Zappa’s “San Ber’dino.” The first night’s performance also featured an acoustic encore made up of “Raise A Glass,” “Blister In The Sun,” “Nebraska” and “Faker.”

Saturday afternoon moe. performed a set that incorporated a kids tent parade during “We Are Famoe.ly” that featured a bunch of little ones swarming the stage. Pink Floyd’s “In The Flesh” opened the first of two nighttime moe. sets on Saturday. Later in the set Fishbone emerged for a take on “Freddie’s Dead,” while the subsequent “Opium” saw Blackberry Smoke’s Charlie Starr sitting-in. Saturday’s second set concluded with Floodwood’s Jason Barady and Nick Piccininni coming out for “Waiting For The Punchline” and Mike Dillon Band’s Otto Schrang joining on “Recreational Chemistry.”

The first of two final moe. sets at moe.down 16 saw Twiddle band mates Mihali Savoulidis and Ryan Dempsey joining the group on a set closing “Mexico.” After opening their final set of moe.down 16 with “McBain,” moe. offered up “Skrunk” > “Yodelittle” before returning to “McBain” with Mike Dillon sitting-in and featuring a “Crosseyed & Painless” jam. The skies opened up and rain poured down during the “Brent Black” set closer. Following Schnier’s “Al.nouncements” moe. encored with “Not Coming Down,” “Okayalright” and just their third cover performance of “America, Fuck Yeah” from the film Team America: World Police, which was last seen at Summer Camp 2009.
