moe. Goes Acoustic At Tropical Throe.down

By Scott Bernstein Jan 13, 2016 8:44 am PST

On Tuesday afternoon moe. continued this year’s installment of Tropical Throe.down with an semi-acoustic performance at Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville Caribbean in Montego Bay, Jamaica. The band’s set included featured a number of rarities including a cover that hadn’t been performed in over 20 years.

Guitarists Al Schnier and Chuck Garvey utilized acoustic guitars for the intimate performance while drummer Vinnie Amico and percussionist Jim Loughlin used mini kits. The band opened with “Moth” and then covered J.J. Cale’s “Cajun Moon” for just the third time since 2010. Originals “Okayalright” and “Blue Eyed Son” followed along with “That Country Tune.” Next up was a cover of Violent Femmes’ “Blister In The Sun,” which had only been played twice since 2007 prior to yesterday. Derhak led the way on the afternoon’s biggest bust out, a cover of Rupert Holmes’ 1979 one hit wonder “Escape (The Pina Colada Song)” which moe. hadn’t performed since 1994. Rarity “Johnny Lineup” followed the bust out and the set concluded with moe. classic “St. Augustine” and a cover of Talking Heads’ “This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody).”

Tropical Throe.down continues today at Jewel Paradise Cove Resort in Runaway Bay, Jamaica.
