moe. & Eggy Seal The ‘Deal’ In Kentucky With Collaborative Grateful Dead Cover

Last night, moe. and Eggy began a series of shows together with a concert at The Burl in Lexington, Kentucky. Both bands loaded the stage to close out the night with a cover of the Grateful Dead's “Deal” as the encore.

Eggy opened in trio formation with a five-song set. Bassist Mike Goodman is sitting out the run to focus on his mental health. Guitarist Jake Brownstein, drummer Alex Bailey and keyboardist Dani Battat worked through originals “Atomic Age,” “Come Up Slow,” “Waiting Game” and “Beaming” along with a cover of Crosby, Stills & Nash’s “Southern Cross” at the outdoor venue in Lexington.

moe. kicked off their first of two sets with the oft-paired “Seat Of My Pants” and “Sensory Deprivation Bank.” Al Schnier then led his bandmates through “32 Things” before the sextet looked to their 2025 studio album, Circle Of Giants, for “In Stride” and “Beautiful Mess.” The beloved “Rebubula” capped the frame.

The Buffalo-bred band put the spotlight on classic material for their three-song second set. Chuck Garvey fronted “It” and then moe. served up fan-favorites “Time Ed” and “Recreational Chemistry.”

When moe. returned to the stage for the encore, they were joined by Eggy. Bailey accompanied Jim Loughlin on perucssion, while Battat sat at the keys with Nate Wilson and Brownstein had his guitar in hand for an extended “Deal.” Al Schnier handled lead vocals on the Garcia/Hunter co-write.

The occasion saw Brownstein finally make good on his dream to perform with the band. Jake Brownstein was among entrants to the 2012 “I Wanna Be In moe.” contest. The Eggy guitarist took a fierce solo during “Deal” as did Garvey and Battat. “Deal” ended with a jam that almost entered “The Other One” territory.
