Modest Mouse Details New Album ‘An Eraser And A Maze’ & Shares ‘Picking Dragons’ Pockets’ Single

Modest Mouse will release a new album, An Eraser And A Maze, on June 5. The band added a batch of Fall Tour dates supporting the forthcoming record and shared the single, “Picking Dragons’ Pockets.”

Modest Mouse’s first album in five years, An Eraser And A Maze, will be their first issued through frontman Isaac Brock’s label Glacial Pace Recordings, following their +20-year tenure at Epic Records. Brock produced the pending album, with additional production provided by Jackknife Lee, Suzy Shinn and Justin Raisen.

Speaking about the follow-up to 2021’s The Golden Casket, Brock explained his approach to An Eraser And A Maze:

“For this one, I turned off my filter and just let it all happen. Even though every goddamn musician says that when they put out a record. I mean, go ahead and listen to the three-minute mark of any interview between a musician and Terry Gross …

“Thoughts, emotions, feelings, all that stuff … you’re like the soup, and it’s not always easy to pick out the ingredients. I don’t dwell on things much. I don’t grieve much. I’m not sure I’m a person. I feel like I should have more feelings than I do. But then, you know, I’ll sing stuff. And I’m like, Oh, there it is. Oh — it’s in there.”

Alongside “Picking Dragon’s Pockets,” the 15-track album also includes the previously shared single, “Look How Far.”

Modest Mouse expanded their touring schedule with additional dates in September and October, following prior announced shows spanning May through August. Two concerts in Seattle were added in July.

The newly confirmed run of shows begins on September 16 in Clearwater (Florida) and includes a festival appearance at Shaky Knees in Atlanta before working through the Midwest, Canada, Northeast, South and West Coast. The run concludes on October 23 in Sacramento (California). Caroline Rose supports on the majority of dates.
