On Sunday, CenturyLink Field in Seattle the Seahawks held their home opener against the San Francisco 49ers. Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready opened the festivities by performing a raucous instrumental rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
McCready’s take on the National Anthem was in a similar vein to the one Jimi Hendrix played at Woodstock in 1969. Today happens to mark the anniversary of Hendrix’s tragic death. Furthermore, Jimi was born in Seattle. The Pearl Jam guitarist sported a Seahawks jersey as he played the anthem.
