Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael, California will host an event dubbed “TXR Big Bass Bash” at its new outdoor Backyard space on July 17. Grateful Dead bassist and venue proprietor Phil Lesh will lead Phil Lesh & Friends through two headlining sets at TXR Big Bass Bash with special guest Mike Gordon aboard as well to sit-in on the action.
Gordon was expected to have the night off from Phish Summer Tour on the 17th between the band’s visits to The Gorge in Quincy, Washington and the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco. Yet Cactus will be the special guest for a version of Phil & Friends that finds Lesh joined by Jackie Greene, Barry Sless, Jason Crosby and John Molo. As if that’s not enough, Midnight North and the Infamous Stringdusters with Nicki Bluhm will each play opening sets.
Mike Gordon performed at Terrapin Crossroads during summer tours in 2013 and 2014 on off nights in the Bay Area. He was the number one choice to fill Phil’s role in Dead & Company, but decided against the band’s offer and discussed the situation in a new interview. Tickets are on sale and available as of press time.
