Michael Stipe Covers David Bowie On ‘The Tonight Show’

Former R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe was tapped as musical guest on last night’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Stipe offered a stirring rendition of one of the late David Bowie’s beloved songs.

Stipe has remained relatively quiet since R.E.M. called it quits in 2011, but he will appear this week on the lineup at two sold-out The Music Of David Bowie all-star tribute concerts in New York City. Stipe, along with the likes of The Roots, Blondie, Pixies, The Flaming Lips and many others, will play Bowie songs at Carnegie Hall on Thursday and at Radio City Music Hall on Friday. A live webcast is available for Friday’s concert.
