This week impresario Michael Dorf will present two sold-out The Music Of David Bowie all-star tribute concerts in New York City. Thursday night will see a diverse group of performers playing the music of David Bowie at Carnegie Hall, while Friday’s special show will be held at Radio City Music Hall. If you can’t make it to Radio City on Friday, there’s an option to watch the concert from home or wherever you have an internet connection.
Skype and ammando have teamed to present a live stream of The Music Of David Bowie Radio City Music Hall performance. Access to the live webcast will be made available via a (recommended $20 minimum) donation that will benefit one of several charities including the Melodic Caring Project, the Center For Arts Education, Little Kids Rock, D’Addario Foundation, Sonic Arts for All!, and more. Follow this link to make a donation to access the webcast.
The lineup for Friday’s concert includes Mumford & Sons, Blondie, Pixies, Michael Stipe, J Mascis, Rickie Lee Jones, Esperanza Spalding, The Flaming Lips, Ron Pope, Jherek Bischoff, Amanda Palmer & Anna Calvi with Kronos Quartet, Ann Wilson, The Roots, Cat Power, The Polyphonic Spree, Perry Farrell, Jakob Dylan, Holy Holy, Donny McCaslin Group with Mark Guiliana, Jason Lindner and Tony Visconti, among others. The Carnegie Hall event was announced just before Bowie passed away earlier this year. The Radio City performance was added shortly thereafter, with the promoters issuing the following statement regarding the pair of now tribute concerts:
The unexpected death of David Bowie has made this tribute to him into a memorial concert. While the series has had the surprise appearances and performances of the honoree several times in the past, this one will certainly become a poignant honor of his music by his friends, peers, and fans. We are all deeply saddened at this news, the timing of our public on-sale bizarre in its timing, and the show is taking on many more emotions. RIP David and may gods love be with you…
Friday night’s concert is expected to start at 8 p.m. ET. Head here for more information on both events.
