Mdou Moctar shared the single “Afrique Victime.” The song is the title track on the Touareg guitarist and songwriter’s upcoming album, set for release on May 21 via Matador Records.
Moctar announced Afrique Victime in early March and previewed the LP with the video for the single “Tala Tannam.” Mdou recorded the album with his band rhythm guitarist Ahmoudou Madassane, drummer Souleymane Ibrahim and bassist Mikey Coltun, with Coltun handling production duties.

Moctar now follows with “Afrique Victime,” which he detailed in a statement. Read his words below:
“Afrique Victime” is a message to all of the countries with money and power who come into Africa and kill the leaders who try to empower the people and lead revolutions. This pushes the area into danger and instability and emboldens the terrorists, and it’s the people who suffer and have no justice. Africa is innocent. The French use our uranium, but 90% of the people here don’t have electricity. Imagine.
“Afrique Victime” arrived with a radio-edited video. Watch the video and listen to the full track below:
