Matthew E. White shared a new single, “Electric.” The song will appear on the singer-songwriter’s forthcoming album, K Bay, due out on September 10 through Domino.
While White released a collaborative album, Broken Mirror: A Selfie Reflection, with artist Lonnie Holley earlier this year, K Bay is the singer-songwriter’s first solo LP in six years since 2015’s Fresh Blood. White heralded the new 11-track solo effort with the single “Genuine Hesitation” and now follows with “Electric.”

Matthew detailed the new single in a statement:
I wrote this song after listening to “Me, My Baby And My Cadillac” by Sleepy Brown. I wanted to write something so intentionally direct like that. When we recorded I wanted the playing to come across raw, limit the instruments and let everything redline from start to finish. The lyrics are mostly pure 60’s bubblegum pop – think Brill Building Carole King – an homage to the overtly saccharine songwriting style of that era. There’s really an absurdity, and theater to it all.
“Electric” arrived along with a music video directed by Wes Parker where Matthew gets his hair trimmed for the first time in years. Watch it below:
