The Magpie Salute Begins 2018 Tour In Colorado

The Magpie Salute returned to the stage last night for their first full show of 2018. Monday’s tour opener saw the band led by former The Black Crowes guitarist Rich Robinson joined throughout the night by newly added keyboardist Matt Slocum.

Robinson and fellow former Crowes members guitarist Marc Ford and bassist Sven Pipien, along with The Magpie Salute vocalist John Hogg and drummer Joe Magistro played one long set Monday at The Village at Copper Mountain in Colorado. The band started the show with “Mary The Gypsy,” the opening track from their upcoming debut studio album High Water I and followed it with the album’s lead single “Send Me An Omen.”

Hogg then led the band through the Hookah Brown original “Omission” and Delaney & Bonnie’s “Comin’ Home.” The set featured several The Black Crowes favorites such as “Sometimes Salvation,” “She Gave Good Sunflower,” “Another Roadside Tragedy” and “Wiser Time” as well as Robinson’s “Down The Road” and Ford’s “Shalimar Dreams” and “I’m Free.”

Other covers included Small Faces’ “Rollin’ Over” and The Temptations’ “(I Know) I’m Losing You.” Robinson and the band also rolled out the new originals “Take It All” and “Walk On Water,” both of which appear on the forthcoming studio release. The set ended with the pair of The Black Crowes classics “Thorn in My Pride” and Remedy.”
