The fifth annual Levitate Music & Arts Festival took place on Saturday and Sunday at the historic Marshfield Fairgrounds in Marshfield, Massachusetts. A capacity crowd witnessed performances from 23 bands across the festival’s three stages as Levitate expanded to two days for the first time. Saturday’s action was headlined by Boston’s own Dispatch who presented a set heavy on material from their recently released album America, Location 12. New Orleans The Revivalists played a rocking set with “All In The Family” and “Catching Fireflies” among standouts, while Providence band Deer Tick gave a more indie-tinged dose of rock and roll. Umphrey’s McGee treated fans to a pair of sets that included such favorites as “Ringo,” “All In Time” and “Glory” as well as a cover of The Who’s “Baba O’Riley.”
Sunday began with sets from youngster Quinn Sullivan as well as up-and-coming acts Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Satsang and Ripe. The penultimate band on the Style Stage were JJ Grey & Mofro who performed the fitting “The Sun Is Shining Down.” Vermont jam act Twiddle drew a huge crowd ahead of a festival-closing set from Ziggy Marley who mixed material of his own with classics from his father’s catalog. Meanwhile, the Style Stage ended with a performance from Lake Street Dive that saw Rachael Price & Co. deliver standout renditions of “Bad Self” and “Stop Your Crying,” among others.
