Maggie Rogers brought her The Feral Joy Tour to New York City’s Radio City Music Hall last night, where she was joined by hometown hero David Byrne for a song towards the middle of her concert. Byrne teamed with Rogers on a joyous rendition of “Strange Overtones” from his 2008 album with Brian Eno, Everything That Happens Will Happen Today.

“Ladies and gentlemen, for one night only, please welcome David Byrne!” the singer exclaimed as the 13th song of her set began. David Byrne was greeted by huge cheers from the capacity crowd. Maggie Rogers and David Byrne swapped lead vocal duties on the verses and came together to sing the song’s catchy chorus. The pair worked out a killer synchronized dance they pulled off to the delight of the audience.

Maggie Rogers is touring in support of her 2022 sophomore studio album, Surrender. David Byrne appears in the video for the LP’s “That’s Where I Am” single. Rogers explained to NME that she simply emailed the former Talking Heads frontman asking him to participate and he complied. “I cold emailed him. We’d never met,” Maggie Rogers said. “I’m a massive fan. And ‘Strange Overtones’ was a song in the pandemic that I just deeply connected to and played over and over and over again. So he feels a part of this record in my brain because I was so connected to that song…”

Byrne was happy to accept the offer. “[He] was just like, ‘Yeah, I’m getting my haircut downtown tomorrow. Where? What time?’… He was like, ‘Yeah, great. I’ll ride my bike over. I think I can hang for like 20 minutes,” Rogers added. Watch fan-shot video of last night’s collaboration below:
