Multi-genre artist Magdalena Rose released a cover of the jazz standard “Georgia On My Mind.” The reimagining comes in celebration of the timeless classic becoming the official state song of Georgia 45 years ago on April 24, 1979.

While co-written and recorded in 1930 by Hoagy Carmichael, the version that became the state song of Georgia was Ray Charles’ definitive rendition recorded in 1960. This was also the version Magdalena Rose first heard growing up in Montana.

With vocals from Rose, her rendering of “Georgia On My Mind” also contains contributions from Kyle Schroeder on saxophone, drums by Jonathan Thomas, piano by Joe Cosas and string arrangements by Aaron Warwick.

As per press materials for Rose’s “Georgia On My Mind.”

What sets Magdalena Rose’s jazz cover apart from other versions is its ability to transport listeners to a place of emotional resonance. With a focus on evoking a dream-like quality, Magdalena’s rendition breathes new life into this beloved jazz standard, offering a fresh perspective on the genre.
