M. Ward Shares ‘Violets For Your Furs’ Video
Singer-songwriter M. Ward paid tribute to jazz legend Billie Holiday on his latest album for ANTI- Records, Think Of Spring. Today, M. Ward released the video for “Violets For Your Furs,” one of 11 tracks featured on the December 2020 LP.
Ward tapped Holly Andres to direct the “Violets For Your Furs” video. The visual finds M. Ward performing the song in a dreamlike state and wandering around a home filled with vintage decor.
Think Of Spring features M. Ward’s interpretations of songs from Billie Holiday’s acclaimed 1958 album, Lady In Satin. “I first heard Lady In Satin in a mega-shopping mall somewhere in San Francisco,” M. Ward noted in a statement. “I was about 20 years old and didn’t know much about Billie’s records or her life or how her voice changed over the years. Anyway, the sound was coming from the other side of the mall and I remember mistaking her voice for a beautiful perfectly distorted electric guitar – some other-world thing floating there on this strange mournful ocean of strings and I was hooked for life.”
“Violets For Your Furs” was written by Tom Adair and Matt Dennis. Ward’s rendition is the fifth track on Think Of Spring. Check out the visual for his cover below:
