Singer-songwriter M. Ward shared a single, “New Kerrang,” featuring Scott McMicken of Dr. Dog. The track is set for Ward’s upcoming album, Supernatural Thing, due out via ANTI- on June 23.

Along with McMicken, M. Ward also welcomed Jim James of My Moring Jacket, First Aid Kit, Shovels & Rope, Neko Case and more as guests on Supernatural Thing.

“The title ‘Supernatural Thing’ comes from an early thought as a kid that radio traveled the same airwaves as messages from supernatural things — and music, especially remembered music, is somehow tied up in this exchange,” Ward noted of his new record.

Supernatural Thing boasts eight Ward originals along with two covers including David Bowie’s “I Can’t Give Everything Away” (featuring Jim James) from the iconic artist’s final album Blackstar as well “Story of an Artist,” from highly influential musician/artist Daniel Johnston. Ward previewed Supernatural Thing in late April with the title track and now follows with “New Kerrang.”

“This is ‘new kerrang’, a song about a drummer facing a crisis of faith in her sound,” Ward explained. “It’s inspired by used-bin Ray Davies records and by all the musicians I know who are chasing perfection by following whatever sound is crashing around in their head.”
