Tedeschi Trucks Band wrapped a three-night run at The Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on Saturday. TTB welcomed guitarist Lukas Nelson for a pair of covers in the second set.
Tedeschi Trucks Band launched the concert with “Anyhow” followed by the recently revived cover of Lonnie Young, Ed Young and Lonnie Young Jr.’s “Chevrolet.” The first set also saw a trio of songs from TTB’s four-part 2022 release I Am The Moon in “Last Night In The Rain,” off Part VI: Farewell, along with with a pair of Part III: The Fall songs — “Emmaline” and “Yes We Will.” After a tune from the Derek Trucks Band catalog, “Joyful Noise,” the band closed the first frame with “Idle Wind.”
During set break, guitarist Derek Trucks would run over to Bridgestone Arena to sit in with Billy Strings and make it back to help kick off TTB’s second set with John Prine’s “Angel From Montgomery” linked up with the Grateful Dead classic “Sugaree.” Vocalist/guitarist Susan Tedeschi welcomed Lukas Nelson four songs into the second set.
The collab got underway with Sleepy John Estes’ “Leaving Trunk.” Vocalist Mike Mattison led the 12-piece through the blues standard with keyboardist Gabe Dixon taking the first solo on the Hammond organ. Lukas came next and added a little Texas twang to his bluesy run. Susan also reeled off a smoking solo along with a little fire from Derek who also egged on a stellar trombone solo from Elizabeth Lea. Trucks then led the band into Rahsaan Roland Kirk’s “Volunteered Slavery,” which saw Lukas shredding on the coda to conclude his sit-in.
