By Andy Kahn Oct 9, 2017 • 2:02 pm PDT

Lukas Nelson + POTR followed an afternoon set yesterday in Golden Gate Park at San Francisco’s Hardly Strictly Bluegrass music festival with a show at the nearby Slim’s. Guitarist Bob Weir (who joined Steve Earle at HSB) sat-in with Nelson and POTR for a performance of a pair of Grateful Dead songs, a cover of a Bob Dylan original and more.
Weir was guest for a rendition of the Dead’s “Althea,” playing slide while Nelson handled lead vocals. Bobby was also onstage for a performance of the legendary Bay Area band’s “West L.A. Fadeaway,” with the Dead & Company frontman singing lead. Weir also guided a performance of “Lay My Lily Down,” which appeared on his 2016 solo album Blue Mountain. The guest spot also saw a cover of Dylan’s “I Shall Be Released.”
Here are audience-shot videos captured by Coton Tzu of Weir with Nelson and POTR at Slim’s last night:
