Gov’t Mule continued a brief run in Australia on Tuesday night at Melbourne’s The Corner Hotel. Once again, the band was joined by Lukas Nelson for their encore in a reprise of Monday’s tour opener.
Lukas Nelson & Promise Of The Real opened for Gov’t Mule in Melbourne as both acts now head to Byron Bay for this weekend’s Byron Bay Bluesfest. Guitarist Warren Haynes, multi-instrumentalist Danny Louis, bassist Jorgen Carlsson and drummer Matt Abts played one long set at The Corner ahead of the collaborative encore.

Gov’t Mule began the set with their cover of The Staple Singers’ “Hammer & Nails.” The quartet focused on staples throughout the evening including “Rocking Horse,” “Sco-Mule,” “Fallen Down” and “Slackjaw Jezebel.” Haynes & Co. also fit in “Revolution Come, Revolution Go” and “Dark Was The Night, Cold Was The Ground” from their recent Revolution Come…Revolution Go LP. When Mule returned to the stage for their encore they were joined by Lukas Nelson. Lukas added to Gov’t Mule’s first cover of “It Makes No Difference” by The Band since Mountain Jam 2012. Nelson stuck around to augment the foursome on Neil Young’s “Cortez The Killer.”
