Former Lotus Guitarist Mike Rempel Honors Chuck Morris With Gorgeous Song ‘Loss & Love’

Former Lotus guitarist Mike Rempel recorded a song dedicated to the memory of his bandmate, percussion Chuck Morris and his son, Charley Morris, entitled “Loss & Love.” Proceeds from the sale of the track will be donated to the Morris Family.

Chuck Morris and his son Charley Morris were reported missing on Thursday, March 16 after embarking on a kayaking trip while vacationing on Beaver Lake near Fayetteville, Arkansas. On Tuesday, March 21, Lotus reported the search for the missing pair had shifted to a recovery effort. Officials announced that on Sunday, April 9 they recovered the missing men. A GoFundMe campaign was established to support the Morris family.

A member of Lotus for 20 years, Rempel’s tenure with the band ended in 2021. Guitarist Tim Palmieri joined the group after Rempel’s departure. Regarding the track “Loss & Love,” Rempel stated:

“For me, this song expresses two sides of grief:

“First, it captures the cutting pain of a beloved’s disappearance: the overwhelming sadness and cognitive incomprehension that seems to tear us apart when we can no longer behold the physicality of our loved one’s presence. It’s the experience of loss that, for a time, feels impossible to accept.

“Secondly, it captures the grace that can touch our hearts as we, however slowly, learn to let our beloved go. In that letting go, the essence and beauty of our beloved shines through with perfect clarity. We recognize that the gift of having shared this life with our loved one is a gift that can’t be taken away from us and that our love for them is ultimately timeless.”

Members of Lotus will perform a special Electron and Beard-O-Bees concert at Ardmore Music Hall in Ardmore, Pennsylvania on May 15. Lotus will host a pair of benefit concerts celebrating the lives of Chuck and Charley Morris at the Fillmore Auditorium in Denver on April 21 and 22. Lotus will be joined by a number of close musical friends and collaborators at both concerts. Full net proceeds from the guest-filled shows will go to the Morris Family. Lotus will proceed with concerts on May 5 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and May 6 in Port Chester, New York as benefits for the Morris Family. The band postponed their upcoming West Coast tour.
