Lost Prince Album ‘Welcome 2 America’ Arrives In July
Prince recorded a 12-track album entitled Welcome 2 America at his Paisley Park Studios in 2010 but never released the album. That will change on July 30 when the late musician’s estate finally unveils the LP via Legacy Recordings. Welcome 2 America’s title track has been shared ahead of the album’s release.
The album is said to document “Prince’s concerns, hopes, and visions for a shifting society, presciently foreshadowing an era of political division, disinformation, and a renewed fight for racial justice” according to a description of Welcome 2 America. Collaborators on the LP include bassist Tal Wilkenfeld, drummer Chris Coleman and engineer Jason Agel. Additionally, Welcome 2 America features singers Shelby J, Liv Warfield and Elisa Fiorillo from New Power Generation as well as keyboardist Morris Hayes.
Hayes co-produced Welcome 2 America with Prince, the legendary musician who died in 2016. Various versions of the album are available for pre-sale via the Prince Store including a deluxe edition. Welcome 2 America Deluxe includes the album on vinyl and CD as well as a previously unreleased Blu-Ray featuring Prince’s April 28, 2011 concert at The Forum in Los Angeles.
