The inaugural Los Muertos con Queso continued on Thursday in Riviera Maya, Mexico. Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir was supposed to perform two sets with his newest project, but the performance went out without Weir who according to Bill Kreutzmann was suffering from food poisoning.

Thursday’s action started with a daytime set from The String Cheese Incident. SCI treated fans to a set that included takes on “Just Like Tom Thumb’s Blues,” “Don’t It Make You Wanna Dance,” “Restless” and more. A second set from Cheese featured a tribute to the late Butch Trucks in the form of a “Jessica” cover. Yesterday’s second SCI set also contained “Believe,” “Valley Of The Jig,” “Miss Brown’s Teahouse” and more.

Kreutzmann, Jeff Chimenti, Dave Schools and Tom Hamilton took the stage without Weir and it wasn’t until late in the evening that Billy revealed why Bobby wasn’t on hand. Jackie Greene filled in for Bob and guests included SCI’s Michael Travis, Kyle Hollingsworth and Jason Hann as well as Adam MacDougall of the Chris Robinson Brotherhood. Both sets focused on Grateful Dead classics such as the “Scarlet Begonias” > “Fire On The Mountain” that opened the show and Hamilton-sung takes on “Mississippi Half-Step,” “Bird Song” and “Shakedown Street.” “Big Railroad Blues” served as the encore. Los Muertos con Queso continues on Friday.
