Supergroup Los Hermanos Cosmico‘s second ever live performance is documented in Sometimes High Is Not The Top/Los Hermanos Cosmico Live In Big Sur, a fever dream concert film set to premiere tomorrow. Sometimes High Is Not The Top/Los Hermanos Cosmico Live In Big Sur will be livestreamed starting on Friday at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT via (((folkYEAH!))) and will only be available for 48 hours. JamBase is pleased to preview the concert film by premiering video featuring the band’s “Someday Past The Sunset” performance from Los Hermanos Cosmico Live In Big Sur.
Los Hermanos Cosmico consists of Chris Robinson, Brent Rademaker, Farmer Dave Scher, Ben Knight, Alex Koford, Camilla Saufley and Barry Sless. The group made their live debut in front of an intimate socially distanced audience at Henry Miller Memorial Library in Big Sur, California on July 30 & 31, 2020. Sometimes High Is Not The Top/Los Hermanos Cosmico Live In Big Sur features the second show in its entirety as well as a “secret bonus song.”

The setlist included a mix of Chris Robinson Brotherhood and Beachwood Sparks tunes as well as songs by Doug Sahm, Neil Young, T. Rex and Syd Barrett. Both concerts marked the first time Chris performed any CRB songs since Neal Casal’s passing outside of a 2019 tribute to the guitarist and doing so with Neal’s close pals in Beachwood Sparks — a band Neal was an honorary member of — made it extra special. This weekend’s broadcast will be the only chance to see the one of a kind concert film experience.
“Someday Past The Sunset” was penned by Chris Robinson and first performed with his New Earth Mud outfit in 2004. Chris played the tune with his brother, Rich Robinson during their 2006 Brothers Of A Feather tour. A version from the run was included on the pair’s Brothers Of A Feather: Live At The Roxy live album/DVD.

Chris Robinson Brotherhood added “Someday Past The Sunset” to their live repertoire upon forming in 2011. The CRB included a studio version on their sophomore album, The Magic Door, the following year. “Someday Past The Sunset” remained a live staple for the group through their final shows in July 2019.
Los Hermanos Cosmico performed “Someday Past The Sunset” on both nights in Big Sur last July. Watch the group’s rendition from Sometimes High Is Not The Top: Los Hermanos Cosmico Live In Big Sur below:
