The 2018 installment of the Lockn’ Festival will be held in Arrington, Virginia from August 23 – 26. Organizers of the event today confirmed Dead & Company will indeed headline the festival and will play four sets over the course of two days. Lockn’ has been hinting at Dead & Company’s appearance between changing its logo to the colors of the band a few months back to sharing a picture of Oteil’s lightning bolt mohawk on Instagram yesterday.

Dead & Company features Grateful Dead members Bob Weir, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart along with Oteil Burbridge, John Mayer and Jeff Chimenti. The group first toured in the fall of 2015 and has focused on headlining shows outside of an appearance at Bonnaroo 2016. Weir performed with Furthur at the inaugural year of Lockn’ in 2013 and returned last year to play with Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band. Kreutzmann is also a Lockn’ vet as are Chimenti and Burbridge.

“The Grateful Dead played legendary shows at Monterey Pop, the US Festival and Woodstock, but their heyday occurred before the modern music festivals we know today emerged,” Lockn’ organizer Peter Shapiro told Rolling Stone. “We are honored to have Dead & Company headline back-to-back nights because it’s so rare. This festival was built on the spirit of the Grateful Dead so their performance is going to be a very big deal for Deadheads everywhere.”

Look for additional Lockn’ ’18 acts to be revealed at the rate of one per day each day for the next week. Then, on February 8, the full lineup will be confirmed. On February 9, Tier 1 tickets will go on sale. Head to the Lockn’ website for more information.
