Live Phish Director Eli Tishberg Chats With Phish On ‘Under The Scales’
By Scott Bernstein Aug 21, 2017 • 12:30 pm PDT

Most Phish webcasts are directed by Eli Tishberg. Phish lyricist Tom Marshall talked with Eli about his job for the latest installment of the Under The Scales podcast.
Marshall and Tishberg start with a discussion of how Eli came to work with Phish. Tishberg then talked about how he picks some of the shots he uses during LivePhish.com webcasts. Eli also explained what his workspace at Phish shows looks like and where it is generally located. The director shared a cool piece of audio at the 13-minute mark in which we hear Eli provide cues to his crew during a version of “Chalk Dust Torture.”
Another topic discussed was the decision to focus on the “Hood Guy” as part of a webcast of last December’s Phish New Year’s Run. Tishberg talked about the tough call he made about featuring Phish fan Nicholas Orr going nuts when Phish peaked “Harry Hood.” Marshall and Tishberg also chatted about Phish’s performance of The Rise & Fall Of Ziggy Stardust & The Spiders From Mars this past Halloween in Las Vegas and all the work that went into the webcast.
