This week, Little Feat began laying out plans for how the veteran rock band would celebrate 50 years of making music with the announcement of next year’s Ramble On The Island. The influential group formed in Los Angeles in 1969 and despite undergoing lineup changes over the years, nearly a half-century later Little Feat continues to entertain audiences around the globe
This edition of Saturday Stream presents a career-spanning Spotify Playlist featuring Little Feat performing live. The collection begins with a recording from 1974 and concludes with a live album from 2003.
Formed by guitarist Lowell George, keyboardist Bill Payne, drummer Richie Hayward and bassist Roy Estrada, that Little Feat lineup released two studio albums. In 1972, Estrada was replaced by Kenny Gradney, while guitarist Paul Barrere and percussionist Sam Clayton were also brought on, solidifying the group’s classic lineup that lasted until George’s untimely death in 1979.

Payne, Gradney, Hayward, Barrere, Clayton reformed Little Feat in 1987 with guitarist Fred Tackett and vocalist Chris Fuller having joined the band. The lineup lasted until 1993 when Fuller left the group and vocalist Shaun Murphy came on board. Murphy’s tenure lasted until 2009 and in 2010 Hayward passed away. The current lineup features Payne, Gradney, Barrere, Tackett, Clayton and drummer Gabe Ford.
The playlist starts with a September 1974 performance of “The Fan” and continues with Little Feat’s performance at the Pinkpop Festival in the Netherlands in June 1976. The classic lineup is also presented while supported by the Tower Of Power horn section exclusive via the bonus outtakes from their classic live album Waiting For Columbus recorded in August 1977. The new Little Feat members of the post-Lowell George era first appear on the Live From Neon Park album capturing performances from December 1995. The set ends with an August 2003 show that was officially released as Highwire Act Live in St. Louis 2003.
