Little Feat Honors Dr. John In Denver

By Andy Kahn Jun 8, 2019 11:00 am PDT

Little Feat honored Dr. John last night during their concert at the Paramount Theatre in Denver. The band celebrating their 50th anniversary played a cover of “Iko Iko” within a performance of their own “Dixie Chicken.”

The legendary New Orleans musician Dr. John (Malcolm Rebennack), who died Thursday at the age of 77, recorded a version of “Iko Iko” and released it as a single for his 1972 album, Dr. John’s Gumbo. Little Feat’s tribute to Dr. John came at the end of their main set and featured guitarist Shawn Eckels sitting-in on the Mardis Gras classic.

Watch audience-shot video of “Dixie Chicken” > “Iko Iko” > “Dixie Chicken” captured by rober fontneau, as well as footage of “Fat Man in the Bathtub,” “Spanish Moon,” “Willin’” and a cover of The Band’s “The Weight,” below:
