STS9 and Lettuce concluded their two-night stand at Radius in Chicago on Saturday. After teaming for an explosive Miles Davis’ cover on Friday, the bands collaborated on the Chic classic “Good Times” during the Chicago finale.
Lettuce — drummer Adam Deitch, bassist Erick “Jesus” Coomes, guitarist Adam “Shmeeans” Smirnoff, keyboardist Nigel Hall, saxophonist Ryan Zoidis and trumpeter Eric “Benny” Bloom — delivered an opening set to begin the evening, kicking off with an intro rendition of “Madison Square” before heading into Crush standout “Chief.”

The band then paired up “Waffles” — off their most recent studio album Unify — and their cover of Tears for Fears’ “Everybody Wants To Rule The World.” Next, Lettuce went seamless with “Sam Huff’s Flying Ragin’ Machine,” “Trapezoid,” “House of Lett” — which included elements of Fred Again’s “Madea (We’ve Lost Dancing)” — and finally “It’s Just Begun” by The Jimmy Castor Bunch to wrap the set.
STS9 launched their portion of the show with a bevy of older favorites, beginning with “Evasive Maneuvers” into a “Modular” exploration. The first set also included “Arigato,” “Moon Socket” and “Scheme.”
As they did with the Miles Davis cover on Friday, the Chic collaboration closed out Tribe’s first set. STS9 — drummer Zach Velmer, guitarist Hunter Brown, keyboardist David Phipps, percussionist Jeffree Lerner and bassist Alana Rocklin — welcomed Lettuce for Chic’s “Good Times.”
The collab delivered a spot-on rendition of Nile Rodgers/Bernard Edwards-written 1979 disco-funk number, with Benny Bloom handling lead vocals and sultry sax stylings from Zoidis throughout. The song began with Deitch in percussion world before hopped on Velmer’s throne. Coomes and Rocklin also broke things down with a double bass attack ahead of the song’s conclusion.

Tribe’s second set got underway with “Searchlight” from their 2024 studio album Chromalight, followed by the “Falling D&B Remix.” The band returned to Chromalight with “Light Obscures” before heading into a standout “Shakey Ground”/“Modular” expedition.
Oldie “Poseidon” then prefaced “118” and a set-closing “Seed” > “Modular” sequence. STS9 then delivered one of their oldest covers, King Tubby’s “King Pharaoh’s Tomb,” to cap the Chicago run.
Lettuce will perform at Suwannee Hulaween tomorrow (October 24). STS9 have a Halloween run in Austin on the books. Find both bands’ itineraries with ticket info below.
