STS9 and Lettuce teamed for a joint run in Chicago this past weekend. On Friday, both fusion bands tipped their cap to the Miles Davis fusion era standout “It’s About That Time” with a collaborative performance to wrap Tribe’s first set.

STS9 kicked off their first set with “Rabble,” stretching the live staple out to 15 minutes. The band then linked up “Strange Games,” “Modular,” “Move My Peeps” and “G Funk.” Next, a standalone “Tap In” prefaced “Big Basin” and a return to “Modular.”

Following “Be Nice,” STS9 offered Miles Davis’ experimental “Black Satin.” The tune appears on the legendary trumpeter’s 1972 album, On the Corner. Lettuce then emerged for the Davis cut, “It’s About That Time,” appearing on Miles’ 1969 album In A Silent Way.

In A Silent Way is pointed to as the beginning of Davis’ fusion era and “It’s About That Time” carries a rock riff. STS9 and Lettuce turbocharged the riff to put an exclamation point on the set. Watch a clip of STS9 and Lettuce throwing down on “It’s About Time” in Chicago below:

STS9 launched their second frame with a pairing of “Jebez” and “Orbital.” “Vapors” saw a return to “Modular” ahead of another coupling of “Like I Do” and “It’s Alright.” Tribe then delivered a “Growblu” sequence, “Blue Mood” with “Grow” sandwiched in between.

“Muir Soul” and “Shock Doctrine” sealed the second set ahead of concert closer “Be Pulse.” Next up for STS9 is a Halloween run in Austin. Lettuce is headed to Suwannee Hulaween this week. Find both bands’ itineraries with ticket info below.
