Moonalice featuring Lester Chambers issued their take on the Allen Toussaint-written and The Pointer Sisters-popularized “Yes We Can Can.” The cover appears on Full Moonalice Vol. 2, an EP due out through Nettwerk on October 7.
The upcoming EP comes on the heels of April’s Full Moonalice Vol. 1 EP. Both collections were mixed and co-produced by Dave Way (Fiona Apple, P!nk) with Full Moonalice Vol. 2 said to find the band “[adding] a touch of country-tinged folk rock to its psychedelic soul sound” as per press materials. The EPs show off the current Moonalice lineup consisting of Lester Chambers, Dylan Chambers, Roger McNamee, Barry Sless, Pete Sears, John Molo, Jason Crosby and T Sisters (Erika, Rachel and Chloe Tietjen).
Moonalice previously released Full Moonalice Vol. 2 lead single “Love Me Today.” Lee Dorsey originally recorded “Yes We Can Can” in 1970 with the Pointer Sisters’ version of Allen Toussaint’s song scoring the vocal group its first hit single in 1973. “This song has such a positive message about bringing people together, taking care of all the children of the world and respecting women’s rights. I think that is something we can all agree on,” explained Lester Chambers.
The band has embraced “Yes We Can Can” as its new motto thanks to such inspiring lyrics as “We Know we can make it work, I know we can make it if we try” and “Oh yes we can, great, gosh almighty yes we can.” Watch the official music video for Moonalice’s “Yes We Can Can” below:
