Leftover Salmon Roll Out ‘Big Wheel’ From Guest-Filled ‘Let’s Party About It’ Album

Leftover Salmon announced a new, guest-filled album, Let’s Party About It, arriving on May 9 via Compass Records as the band celebrates their 35th anniversary. The jamgrass pioneers also shared the lead single “Big Wheel.”

Guests on the record are Del McCoury, Sam Bush, Jason Carter and Jeff Coffin. LoS wrote the material for Let’s Party About It together in one session, a first for the group, with renowned songwriter and longtime friend of the band Aaron Raitiere, who’s worked with Lady Gaga, Lukas Nelson, Lainey Wilson and more.

Salmon recorded the LP at Nashville’s famed Compass Sound Studio (formerly Glaser Sound Studio), “the iconic birthplace of Outlaw Country.” The Let’s Party About It sessions saw bluegrass legend Del McCoury stopping by to add his voice to “Twisted Pine.”

Del McCoury Band and the Travelin’ McCourys collaborator Jason Carter lays down fiddle on LoS banjo player Andy Thorn’s “Salmon Scales.” Sam Bush picks mandolin on the title track alongside clarinet from Jeff Coffin (Béla Fleck & The Flecktones, Dave Matthews Band). Coffin also leads a horn section on the “Polyethnic Cajun Slamgrass” cut “Good Dog.” Salmon’s Drew Emmitt burns brightly on “Shine On” and “River Takes Me.”

The album’s lead single, “Big Wheel,” features the vocal stylings of the band’s Vince Herman. “The world keeps turning. Find a spot to watch it fly by and ride the wheel,” he said of the new track.

Leftover Salmon will further mark their 35th anniversary with a home state bash at Red Rocks on May 26 with Kitchen Dwellers and Clay Street Unit along with special guests Bill Payne (Little Feat), Laurie Lewis, Jason Carter, AJ Lee and more.
