Soul veteran Lee Fields recently delivered his Tiny Desk Concert debut. The singer performed songs off his 2022 Daptone Records release, Sentimental Fool, and more.

Lee Fields’ nickname is “Little JB,” stemming from similarities to James Brown. Due to the time constraints of a Tiny Desk Concert, Lee had to be reminded not to get the audience involved in that time-honored soul tradition. Read an excerpt from NPR below:

“You can’t see it on the screen, but there’s a piece of paper taped to the Desk in front of Lee Fields throughout the R&B, blues and soul veteran’s long-awaited Tiny Desk debut. It’s got the set list, of course, but also an instruction to the singer: “NO AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION!!!!”

Lee Fields would break that rule. The singer and his band — guitarist Benjamin Trokan, trumpeter Jason Colby, saxophonist Frederick DeBoe, keyboardist Toby Pazner, drummer Evan Pazner and bassist Jacob Silver — kicked off the set with Sentimental Fool’s “Forever” before taking it back to 2009’s My World with “Ladies.” Lee wrapped the set with two more Sentimental Fool cuts: “What Did I Do” and “Two Jobs.”
